Cleaning and Caring for Pewter Patina Finishes
We supply furniture in a range of Pewter Patina finishes that have been applied on top of various base metals.
Our most popular Pewter Patina finish, is from our hand forged range, and this is a finish that is applied over steel. It has a heavy textured finish which really accentuates the natural feel of forged steel.
Finally, we have a standard Antique Pewter, which is a finish that is applied over the top of solid brass. This is similar to the hand forged pewter but with a much smoother appearance.
Although they each have a different base metal, they are all cared for in the same way.
Regular Care
While these Pewter finishes are generally low maintenance, we do recommend that they are occasionally wiped with a lightly oiled cloth. This will help to remove the build-up of harmful deposits and maintain the finish.
You may also wish to oil moving parts on the hand forged Pewter finish to keep the steel underneath in tip top condition.
WD40 or a standard 3 in 1 oil works best.
You may need to do this every couple of months.
Never use any form of cleaning agent or metal polish as this will remove the applied finish.
Protection
To help protect the life of the finish we recommend that occasionally it is treated with a good quality wax polish. We tend to use Beeswax and a soft, lint free cloth.
You should do this every 3 - 4 months.
