Bronze Door Knobs

Our preference when choosing brass is to go for an Unlacquered finish, either polished or lightly aged to begin with and then allow time and use to naturally age the brass. This way you get a rich, deep patina and don’t loose the beauty of the real metal feel. Of course, if you prefer you brass shiny then it really is simply a case of using a metal polish (we tend to use Brasso), a soft cloth and some love and attention! We have more information on ‘lacquer’ in our finishes guide, but if you do decide to choose this route please be aware that no matter how good the quality of the lacquer it will scratch and break down with time.

There are also a wide choice of hand finishes that are applied to brass and bronze, so if you are trying to match in with existing furnishings please take a look at the choices available. Many of these finishes are ‘Living’ finishes, which means they will also age and wear with time and the natural brass or bronze will eventually show through.

Many of the door knobs we supply are solid brass or bronze, so are heavy, and are usually ‘Unsprung’. This means you will need a Heavy Sprung lock or latch to bring the door knob back to the closed position.

Our door knobs come in pairs (only Centre Pulls and Cupboard Knobs are sold individually), but if you do need a single door knob to be used as a pull, or would like a mix of two finishes – for example for a bathroom where you need a nickel or chrome finish for inside and brass on the outside, please contact us. Some of the products are able to be made as half sets or mixed finish sets.
